Allô et bienvenue!

Bonjour tout le monde!

I extend a very warm and heartfelt welcome to you! I’m so glad you’re here.

My name is Mason. 🙂

I’m the creator and author of The Charette Cabinet, a blog dedicated to sharing informal excerpts, academic essays, and personal reflections and opinion pieces on art historical themes, objects, events, ideas, and persons entwined with the French visual and material histories and cultures of the early-modern period through the late-19th century.

This space is also devoted to discussing a breadth of subjects and dilemmas emerging scholars and students in the art historical discipline (like myself) have often encountered and may even continue to encounter. Here, I’ll offer (hopefully helpful) tips and stimulate conversations on matters such as academic writing, productive studying, argument formulation and defense, and the usage of specific methodological approaches in research.

I am aware that these are rather quite unique areas for discussion to dedicate a blog to – but this is precisely the point! (p.s., doing it this way enables me to even test out a few research ideas that come to mind while conducting my studies at The Courtauld Institute of Art).

Nevertheless, this space is as much yours as it is mine as it relates to the sharing of thoughts, ideas, and feelings on these aformentioned topics. It is my hope that this blog is not a mere one-way street; I aim for this space to be one of reciprocal conversation and engagement and overall human connection.

So please feel free to showcase your work and become actively involved in a community this is as drawn to the worlds of academia and art history as myself!

I aim to make new posts on Tuesday of each week (though life is full of surprises and plot twists). So make sure to subscribe to the blog by email to get the latest updates!
